I will begin with My Great Grandmother Jane Porter who married my
Great Grandfather Gilford Pippins on May 12, 1872 in Johnson County.
Jane Porter was born on Dec.24, 1848 in Vienna Illinois, and died
on April 30, 1923 in Vienna, at the age of 75.
She is the daughter of
Jesse Porter and Melvina Standard: Jesse born in North Carolina and
Malvina 1828 in Vienna, Johnson County.
Gilford and Jane had 8 Children. All born in Vienna, Johnson County.
1. Ada Bell Pippins born Sept. 3, 1873. Married Joshua West Thompson 2/6/1895
died Feb. 25, 1947.
2. Martha Ella Pippins born May 13, 1875. Married John Henry Ford
1892 then Married Calvin Simmons 9/26/1933. died July 4, 1962
3. Laura "Larry" Pippins born 1877. Married James Crowder Stockdale
4. MY GRANDFATHER:
James Arthur Pippins born April 4, 1878.
Married Leora Jane Turley abt. 1898. And died 1952 in Vienna.
5. Jessee L. Pippins born Oct 1880. Married Daisy Hainline and then Gertie Henry;
died 1948.
6. Melvina "Mal" Pippins born 1882. Married C.B. Clark.
7. Viola "Oly" Pippins born April 30, 1882. Married John K. Dunsworth 1/1/1899; died Nov. 1968 in Malcomb, Illinois.
8. Cora " Cory" D. Pippins born Oct. 1884. Married Charles Hester 1/6/1904. Died Feb. 15, 1967.
Gilford also married Martha Clymer daughter of John C. and Sarah Clymer on Aug. 4, 1864
They had 3 Children: Mary Frances Pippins b: 1867. David Pippins b: 1869, John W. Pippins b: 1871
About Gilford Pippins: At the first call for troops Gilford
enlisted as a Union Soldier 1861. He was in for 3 years. He
volunteered and went to the front as a member of Co. I, 29th Infantry.
He veteranized and took furlough to marry Martha Clymer in 1864. He
returned to his regiment until the end of the war 1865. He was
honorably discharged and returned home to Vienna to farm.
