Truman Merriman
Truman Merriman, age 90 years, a resident of rural Buncombe, passed away Monday morning, Sept. 2, 2002, at 1:55am at Western Baptist hospital in Paducah, KY. Truman was born Feb. 3, 1912 in Union county. He was the son of Charles and Etta (CHILDERS) Merriman. Truman was united in marriage to Bertha Violet (ROBERTSON) on Dec. 26, 1929. Together, they enjoyed 72 years of marriage. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Truman Merriman jr. and his wife Mary of Goreville; two daughters, Ellen Dunn and her husband, Kenneth of Tiskilwa, Linda Gurley and her husband, Ray of Dixon; 5 grandchildren; 15 great - grandchildren; 3 great - great- grandchildren; 1 brother, Glen Merriman and his wife Bonnie of California; 1 sister, Maxine Hayes and her husband, Dwight of Ohio. In addition to his parents, Truman was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Viola Merriman; 3 brothers, Willis, Owen & Francis Merriman; 2 sisters, Opal Warning and Mae Boswell; 2 grandchildren; 2 great - grandchildren. Truman was a lifelong farmer. He had also been employed as a psychiatric aid at the Anna state Hospital, retiring in approximately 1971. Truman had also previously worked as a correctional officer at Menard Correctional Center in Chester. Truman was a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau, and attended the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, and fishing. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at 1:pm at Bailey funeral home in Vienna. Rev. Jim Shipley will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Buncombe. Visitation will be from 6-9pm Thursday evening, Sept. 5, 2002 at the Bailey Funeral Home. Memorials may be to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund.
