Vernon F. Taylor

Vernon F. Taylor, son of Herschel Lee Taylor & Hattie Liza Jane (Smithson)
Taylor-McGill, was born November 18, 1929 in Black Oak, Arkansas. He
departed this life Friday evening, October 15, 2004, at 9:40 PM at his
home near Vienna, IL. At the time of his passing, Vernon had attained
the age of 74 years, 10 months, and 27 days.
Vernon was united in marriage to Frankie A. (Covington) on Sept. 19,
1954 in Heafer, AR. She survives.
Other Survivors include: 1 Son – Robert Taylor &
his wife Lori, of Vienna, IL; 3 Daughters – Deborah Carter of Herrin,
IL; Brenda Hamp & her husband Robert, of Harrisburg, IL; and Violet
Treat & her husband David, of Mattoon, IL. 13 Grandchildren: Amber
Tite, Sarah Carter, Emily Carter, Jamie Short, Angela Girtman, Amy
Little, Alicia Taylor, Jeremy Taylor, Paul Thorne, Shawna Hamp, Nicholas
Hamp, Brandon Treat, and Brittany Treat. 7 Great Grandchildren –
Savanna Tite, Skyler Carter, Kaden Hall, Allison Girtman, Xander Thorne,
Tyler Little & Seth Little. 4 Brothers – Rev. William Taylor of
Earl, AR; Chamness Taylor of Pocahontas, TN; Bobby McGill of Gulf
Breeze, FL; and Walter McGill of Simpson, IL. 2 Sisters – Mabel Watson
of Memphis, TN; and Opal Hill of Rossville, TN. A Dear Friend – Diana
Funk whom Vernon loved as a daughter. And Nieces, Nephews, other
relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by a dear
friend, Barbara Rose, whom he loved as a daughter.
Vernon was a US Army Air Corps and US Air Force veteran.
He had been employed as a Fleet Mechanic for
Diversified Metals in East St. Louis, IL. He farmed and assisted in the
construction of concrete agricultural silos.
Vernon was of the Southern Baptist faith. He enjoyed mowing the yard and
was an avid golfer and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He played the guitar and
taught his grandkids how to dance. Vernon also loved cooking and taught
his family how to cook. Vernon leaves his family and many dear friends
to cherish his memory.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004 at 11 AM at the
Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, IL. Rev. Bud McDannel will officiate.
Visitation will begin after 5 PM Monday, Oct. 18, at Bailey Funeral
Home. Burial will be in the Gilead Cemetery. Military rites will be
accorded at the cemetery by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post #5222. Memorial
contributions may be directed to the family.
