William C. Pfeffer II
William C. Pfeffer II, 58 years old and a resident of Goreville passed away Saturday evening, September 23, 2000 at 10:55p.m. at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, IL. He was born October 21, 1941 in St. Louis, MO. He was the son of William I. Pfeffer and Anne (MENALO) Pfeffer. She survives and resides in Lebanon. William was united in marriage to Dorothy (FRANCIS) on November 11, 1967 in Goreville. She also survives. In addition to his wife and mother, William is also survived by; 4 daughters; Gretchen Handlos and her husband Jim of Mesa, AZ.; Elizabeth Potocki and her husband Troy of Goreville; Sarah Pfeffer of Chandler, AZ; and Anne Pfeffer of Goreville. Five grandchildren; Grace and Sam Handlos, Brandon, Trenton and Morgan Potocki. Two sisters Ruzha Cleaveland and her husband Clif of Chattanooga, TN; and Anne Turner of Austin, TX. As well as several nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his father William I. Pfeffer . William had been employed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture as a meat inspector throughout Southern Illinois since 1992. He had also owned and operated Shawnee Meat packers in Goreville for 18 years. William was a 1959 graduate of Lebanon High School, and was also a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Goreville, where he had served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and worship leader. William enjoyed working in the church and serving his Lord. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and a former member of the Lake of Egypt Water District Board and the Johnson County Housing Authority Board. William had served on the Goreville School Board for approximately the past 10 years. William was a sports enthsiast. He loved people of all ages and especially enjoyed spending times with his family and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at the Goreville First Baptist Church. Dr. Ron Ferguson and Rev. Ron Null officiated. Burial was in the Busby Chapel Cemetery, south of Goreville. Military rites were conducted by Beggs-Gurley VFW Post #5222 of Vienna. Memorials may be made to the Goreville First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 39, Goreville, IL 62939. Arrangements were handled by Bailey Funeral Home, Vienna.
