William EVANS b 1854 jarcon
Oct-28-03 by jarcon
I am researching William Evans who was born in 1854 in New Jersey. His family moved in the late 1850's to Wisconsin.
After both his parents died in the 1860's, and by 1911, he had moved to Elgin and Gilberts where I believe he was
a farmer. By 1911 he had a son named Will. He was still living in 1832.

Patient at Il. Northern Hosp. for Insane
Aug-17-03
Does anyone know if there had to be a court case or other procedure to get a person into the state hospital at
Elgin? One of the patients listed in the 1880 census of this hospital on this site may be my great grandmother.
Her name was Wilhelmina Jensen. The census lists the name as Jenson. I need to try to figure out if it is her.
I am at a loss on which direction to go. She was from Chicago as was the patient listed. Any help would be greatly

No, I haven't found any reletives in any of them yet, but you never know. These were not just homes for the
homeless yet they were "work farms" where people "worked" for a place to stay. Good Luck searching.

Thomas Stalker, 1880 Census
May-31-03
FIRSTLY, WHAT A GREAT WEB SITE!
Greetings from England.
I have found a Thomas Stalker in Campton, Kane, Ill. in the 1880 Census. A branch of the Stalker family disappears
from Penrith, England in early/mid 1830s. Thomas' father was William, a well-to-do hatter. No Will or trace of
his death (or that of his wife) has been found in the English records.
Is Thomas, now a farmer in Kane, the son of William & Phillis, baptised Dec 23rd 1832? Are there any other
English-born Stalkers born 1811 to 1832 in Kane.
Was Campton big enough for a hatter to earn his trade in the mid 1830s?
The question is: was Thomas 'my' Thomas? "e nicol"
Anyboby help?

2. "Re: Taylor Accident in 1941" In response to message #1
You have 4 options: Write to the library in the town the accident occurred and ask them very nicely if they'll
do a look-up in the newspaper for you. The big towns have very good libraries - Elgin having the best genealogical
library. Many of them have microfilms of the newspapers going back many years.
You can also write to the historical/genealogical society of the town and request them to do research for you (for
a fee probably)
You can write to the Illinois Historical Library and ask them to conduct research for you by looking up the story.
Their website is at http://www.state.il.us/hpa/lib/Microfilm.htm
You can also request to view the newspaper microfilm yourself from the Historical library via interlibrary loan.
Your hometown library handles the paperwork. Be aware however that the Historical library is currently closed until
September
Good luck! iltrails
Milbrandts in Elgin Ill. from Isen Germany
Feb-12-03
I am trying to find out more information about WILHELM and HENRIETTA (SCHWANKE) MILBRANDT's family. They came to
America in the 1880s. From some of their children's marriage records it stated that they were from Isen Germany.
I am still trying to find records of them in Germany.
They had 8 children that I know of: Herman Julius, Edward, Emma, Albert Earnest, Johannah, Adeline, Leo, and Minnie.
I have information on some of these children and their spouses etc but not all of them.
Sometimes the last name has been spelled MILBRAND. by "minnekimba"

KIMBLE/KIMBALL of Kane County
Feb-4-03
Seeking info on COLBY KIMBLE/KIMBALL. COLBY was born in Vermont between 1809-1811. About 1835 he married ESTHER
?, an English Canadian, and moved to Rochester, Monroe Co., NY. COLBY and ESTHER had 4 children: CHAUNCY (b. 1837,
d. 1917), WILLIAM C. (b. abt. 1841), CHARLES (b. abt. 1844) and JOSEPHINE (b. abt. 1848) The 1840 Census lists
them as KIMBALL. The 1850 and 1860 Census lists them as KIMBLE. While in Rochester, COLBY worked as a house and
portrait painter (producing at least 50 portraits), and ran the city art gallery (Pioneer Hall). COLBY KIMBALL/KIMBLE
is listed in at least two volumes for appraising paintings: one for the Midwest and Northeast. Sometime between
1865 and 1868, COLBY and family (with the exception of CHAUNCY) moved to Kane Co., IL and purchased property in
or near Campton. An 1872 property map shows a farm being owned by a C. KIMBALL in Campton, Kane Co., IL. The property
is close to Wasco and St. Charles. The 1870 Census lists them as KIMBALL. COLBY, ESTHER, CHARLES and JOSEPHINE
do not appear in the 1880 Census either having moved, died or married (in the case of Josephine).
WILLIAM C. KIMBLE, son of COLBY, continued to live in Kane Co. until at least 1910. An 1892 property map shows
that the property that COLBY owned, having been sold. However WILLIAM continued to be a farmer until 1910. WILLIAM
married MARGARET JANE ? about 1862 and had three children: GEORGE EDWARD, WILLIAM COLBY and TONE THEODORE. All
three are listed as having been born in Illinois. The 1910 Census lists WILLIAM and MARGARET as having 5 children
with only 3 living at that time. They had also moved to St. Charles Township, Kane Co. and continued to farm.
I have not been able to find any information on GEORGE EDWARD KIMBLE except a birth range 1870-1871.
WILLIAM COLBY KIMBLE was born 1867-1869. About 1894, WILLIAM married and had two children: MARGARET H., born 1895-1896;
and MAURINE J., born 1894-1895; both born in Illinois. Sometime between 1896 and 1910 WILLIAM's wife died. By 1910,
WILLIAM had moved to Center Township, Gibson Co., Indiana; working as a buttermaker. MARGARET and MAURINE stayed
with their grandparents WILLIAM C. and MARGARET JANE til at least 1910.
TONE THEODORE KIMBLE was born December 1875. TONE lived in Campton, Kane Co. til at least 1900 as a school teacher,
then moving to Hampshire, Kane Co. til at least 1930. Not sure if being a teacher in the same county for at least
30 years would leave a mark.
JOSEPHINE KIMBLE, daughter of COLBY, was a music teacher in Kane Co. until at least 1880. Not sure of her whereabouts
after that time.
Any information as to the fate of these particular KIMBLE/KIMBALL’s and/or COLBY and ESTHER’s origins, siblings
and parents, wold be greatly appreciated.
