CYNTHIA POHL (nee Worsley) 56
Mrs. Gabriel Pohl, 56, died at her home, 900 Fourth Avenue, Monday morning, October 27, at seven-thirty o'clock following an illness of one year. Cynthia Worsley was born April 30, 1891 in Bronaugh, Missouri the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Worsley. At the age of fourteen years she came to Illinois with her family and resided on a farm near Triumph. In 1908 she was united in marriage with Gabriel Pohl and the couple resided on a farm east of Mendota until 1937, when they moved to their present home in Mendota. Mrs. Pohl was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and of the Women's Society of that church. Mrs. Pohl is survived by her husband; three sons, Elman, Howard and Arthur; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Crossman of LaMoille, and Miss Clarice at home; four brothers, Alfred M., Allen and Boyd Worsley of Missouri and George of Triumph; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Thompson of Princeton and Mrs. Blanche Carter of California; seven grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock from the late residence, and two-thirty o'clock at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Wilbert E. Hare officiated. Burial was in Restland cemetery. Pallbearers were John Gibbs, Ira Morehouse, Howard Yenerich, Webb Setchell, S.D. Dewey and Frank Parks. Flower bearers were Mrs. Harry Fahler, Mrs. Fred Keene and Mrs. John Gibbs. - Contributed by Pat Esterday

ELMAN G. POHL, 85
Elman G. Pohl, 85, a resident of Heritage Manor Nursing Home, died June 29, 1997 in the nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, in the First Presbyterian Church in Mendota. The Rev. Dale Dykstra will officiate. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 2 in the Merritt Funeral Home. He was born Jan. 25, 1912 in Ophir Township to Gabriel and Cynthia (Worsley) Pohl. He married Mabel Hild on Jan. 21, 1931 in Van Orin. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. He was a 1929 graduate of Mendota High School. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #714 and a 50 year member of Elks Lodge #1212. He was a lifelong area farmer and a supervisor/salesman for Lynx Hybrid Seed for 15 years. Survivors include two sons, George of Mendota and John of Salt Lake City, Utah; three daughters, Carol (Gaylon) Ehlers of Mendota, Cynthia (James) Foster of Mendota, and Janice (Eugene) Jakse of Peru; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur E. Pohl of Amboy; two sisters, Ruth Crossman of LaMoille and Clarice (Maurice) Faber of LaMoille; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mabel on May 18, 1991, a grandson, a brother and his parents. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice. - Contributed by Pat Esterday

JACOB P. POHL 82
Jacob Pohl, 82, died at 11:45 a.m. , Wednesday, July 22, at his residence, 400 Eleventh Avenue. He had been bedfast for one month and in failing health for a year and a half. A son of George and Margaret Schaller Pohl, he was born January 15, 1871, in Sublette Township, Lee County. He was baptized April 3, 1871, in St. Paul's Church on Old Chicago Road and was confirmed on Easter Sunday in the year of 1884. October 15, 1901, he was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Herrmann. The couple was privileged to celebrate its silver wedding anniversary in 1926. Mrs. Pohl preceded her husband in death on September 25, 1935. Surviving are one son, Edward Jacob Pohl of Compton; one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Mildred) Gustavson of Mendota; one foster son, William Lindenmeyer Pohl; several grandchildren; one brother, George Pohl of Aurora; and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kessel of Mendota and Mrs. Frank Schenbricker of Rock Island. ISABEL POHL, 78, (nee Brooking)
Mrs. Karl W. (Isabel) Pohl, 78, of 506 Tenth Ave., died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 in Mendota Community Hospital where she had been a patient since Aug. 31. She had been a resident at Sunrise Nursing Home various times since January 1972. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Schwarz Funeral Home with the Rev. Thor E. Bogren officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery. Pallbearers were George Schuetz, George Setchell, Webster Setchell, Albert, Elman and Howard Pohl. Visitation was Saturday afternoon and evening at the funeral home. There was no Sunday visitation. Memorials were directed to Mendota Community Hospital. Isabel Pohl, nee Brooking, was born April 11, 1895 in Macomb, the daughter of Frederick and Mae Brooking. She married Karl W. Pohl, June 20, 1916 in Mendota. Her husband servives. Mrs. Pohl was a member of the Episcopal Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and a charter member of Chapter BV, PEO Sisterhood. . - Contributed by Pat Esterday

MABEL POHL, 80 (nee Hild)
Mabel Pohl, 80, of 1403 Lakewood Drive, died Saturday, May 18, 1991, at St. Anthony's Medical Center in Rockford. Mrs. Pohl was born Oct. 24, 1910, in Van Orin, a daughter of J. W. and Sarah (Barger) Hild. She married Elman Pohl in Van Orin Jan. 21, 1931. She graduated from LaMoille High School in 1929 and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mendota and LaMoille Birthday Club. Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Thomas Barnes officiating. Pallbearers were Douglas Jakse, Neal Tipton, Scott McCoy, Shane McConville, Glen Fitzsimmons, Dan Driessen, George West, Brad Ehlers, Ben Waldie, Brian Pohl, Michael Piller, Brent Ehlers and Jason Foster. Visitation was 2 - 7 p.m. Sunday at Merritt Funeral Home. Memorials were directed to the donor's choice. Mrs. Pohl is survived by her husband; two sons, George of Mendota and John of Salt Lake City, Utah; three daughters, Mrs. Gaylon (Carol) Ehlers of Mendota, Mrs. Eugene (Janice) Jakse of Peru and Mrs. James (Cynthia) Foster of Mendota; two brothers, Robert Hild of LaMoille and William Hild of Brandon, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Murray (Mary) Reeser of Mendota; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
