The Sterling Daily Gazette, February 12, 1919
Wardlo Wallace, the 15-year-old son of Tobias Wallace, of Palmyra, was last evening held to the grand jury under bonds of $200 by Justice Gehant on a charge of petty larceny, preferred by Lester Hoyle. Mr. Hoyle missed some skunk furs last week and notified the police, telling them of his suspicions concerning Wallace. Accordingly a trap was set which resulted in the boy’s arrest Monday [02/11/1919] and his arraignment before the Justice last evening in Dixon. Wallace signed a written confession to the theft of the hides, which he sold to Sinow & Wienman for $6, the check which that firm gave for them being endorsed with words across the face, “Don’t Pay.” (Contributed by Larry Reynolds)
