Dixon Evening Telegraph 25 May 1944

The home of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. (Carl) Eckert was the scene of a pleasant gathering on last Sunday night when a surprise birthday party was given in honor of Edward Ackert who birthday occurred last week. The members from the bowling team from Amboy of which Edward was a member were guests of the evening and Miss Mary Ackert student nurse at St. Anne's Hospital in Chicago was also present. Edward received many gifts and delicious refreshments were served. At a late hour the guests departed wishing the honoree many more happy birthdays.

Little Stephen Doran is visiting his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Will Fitzpatrick while his mother has gone to Jackson Miss. to visit her husband Ross Doran who is in the combat engineers department at Camp Shelby Miss. Mrs. Doran will also visit her sister Sgt. & Mrs. Mark Middendorf of Jackson Miss.

Mrs. Jesse Lautenheiser of Walton and Miss Mary Grohens of Dixon spent Wednesday of last week in Freeport where they visited with Mrs. John Dovier who is a patient in St. Francis Hospital in that city.

Miss Arlene McCaffrey student nurse at St.Anthony's Hospital in Rockford spent the weekend with her mother Mrs. Marie McCaffrey and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Finn and daughter Mary were in Dixon Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dunphy and family and Anna J. McCoy spent Monday evening in Amboy.

James Morrissey of Newton Iowa spent the weekend at the Peter McCoy home and visited with other relatives.

Henry Ulrich is visiting at the home of his sister Mrs. Lena Morrissey.

Miss Margaret Conroy student at St. Elizabeth's hospital Chicago, is spending a few days at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. John Conroy.

Mrs. Margaret Drew and son Raymond and daughter Dorothy of Harmon and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ryan and family of Maytown were Sunday visitors at the Leo Drew home.

Mrs. Harold Lawler of Amboy and Miss Bernice Fitzpatrick, R.N. of Aurora, were callers during the past week at the Peter McCoy home and also visited with other relatives.

Miss Edith Eckert who is employed in Chicago spent Christmas with her parents Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Eckert and returned to her position the day after Christmas.

Miss Patricia Morrissey who attends business college in Rockford returned to her studies after spending her holiday vacation at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Morrissey..
