THREE ASHTON BOYS
Fined and Put on 5 Years Probation

Three Ashton boys were fined $200 each and placed on strict 5 year probation yesterday by Judge Grover W. Gehant in Lee County Court at a delinquincy hearing in connect with a series of thefts in Ashton.

The youth are Meredit Hays 14; Merrill Dean Heinrichs 15 and James Bolen 12, all of whom admitted entering Ashton High School, Clovers Electric Shop, two Ashton residences and a number of automobiles in recent weeks.

The boys were ordered to pay their fines within 90 days, to be home by 8 p.m. each day, and to attend Chuch and Sunday School regularly. The parents were made responsible for the fines.

In addition Judge Gehant changed the custody of two of the boys from their parents.

He placed Heinrichs, son of Mrs. Mildred Klingebiel, in the custody of the boys grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd House and Bolen in custody of George Vogler. Dixon Evening Telegraph 18 May 1948
