FORTY-FIRST ILLINOIS INFANTRY

The Forty-first Infantry Illinois Volunteers was organized at Decatur,
Illinois, in the month of August, 1861, by Col. Isaac C. Pugh. Moved to St. Louis August 7; August 29th moved to Bird’s
Point, Missouri, and assigned to the command of General Prentiss; September 8th moved to Paducah, Kentucky, and
assigned to General B. F. Smith's command; February 5th, 1862, moved to Fort Henry, Tennessee; 11th marched to Fort Donelson, Tennessee, and was engaged, 13th, 14th and 15th in the siege,
under Colonel McArthur; March 10 moved for Pittsburg Landing, arriving the 14th; engaged in the Battle of Shiloh, April 6th and 7th, 1862; engaged in the siege at Corinth, Mississippi; marched to Memphis, Tennessee, arriving July 11, and remained until September 6; moved
for Bolivar; moved from Bolivar to LaGrange, November 3; Arrived at Memphis, Tennessee, March 10, 1863; sent to Hernando, Mississippi; in an engagement
at Coldwater; returned to Memphis,
Tennessee,; moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi, May 12th, etc.; was at last consolidated with the Fifty-third
regiment.
