Macoupin County Old Settlers
Carlinville, Ill., Aug. 14—The annual picnic of the old settlers of Macoupin County was held today at Chesterfield. The attendance was very large. The crowd was addressed by the Rev. B.H. Hamilton, of Whitehall, and J.H. Matheney, of Springfield. The next annual meeting will be held Aug. 15, 1880 at Sulphur Springs. Jonathan Davis was elected President for the ensuing year. Palmyra, March 20 – The annual commencement exercises of the Scottville school will be held in the Christian church there on the evening of Friday, April 1.  The graduating class is composed of three members: R. Girard, Ill. Jan. 8 – The Rev. Fawcett, pastor of the First Baptist church of East St. Louis, is conducting a protracted meeting at the Baptist church in this city.  He is an evangelist of considerable ability, and his semons are proving quite interesting to his audiences which are large each night.
