John Robert Quayle, a respected resident of Salem for the past 25 yrs, died at his home, Sunday afternoon at 4:30 O'Clock after an illness of about 2 wks duration.  He was 72 years of age.  Mr. Quayle was bor in Peoria but came to Marion County when quite young., residing at Patoka until he removed to Salem at the time he was elected to the office of County Clerk on the Democrat Ticket.  He taught school for a number of years during the time he resided in Patoka.  He had served on the City Council here and at the time of his death was serving as a Justice of the Peace.  Funeral services were held from the Local Southern Methodist Church Wed afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. W. S. Wright, the pastor officiating.  Interment was made at Patoka.
