Born August 17, 1833, in Adams county, Ohio; removed west in 1852, and located in Mason county, Illinois, and has since been a resident thereof. Was admitted to the bar in 1860; engaged in banking in 1866, a business which he continues to the present time. In 1856 he married Mary L., daughter of Hon. R. McReynolds, an old and honored citizen of Mason county. Mr. Cappel served Mason county as master in chancery for twelve year, and a notary public for a much longer time, and is one of the leading men in the business interests of the county and city, and one of the substantial citizens.
