It is with pleasure we record the arrival in Mason county, during this centennial year, of the gentleman whose name heads this sketch. Mr. Mehan was born in the City of New York, April 1, 1844; removed to Illinois in 1857, located at Delavan, and worked on a farm until twenty-one years of age; and were we called on for an opinion as to the kind of a farmhand he made, we would say, good; for his physical organization and driving energy would make him first up in the morning, first in the field, and first home for his dinner. The common schools were his alma mater, although he attended for a while Lombard University. He was admitted to the bar in 1868; began the practice of law in Delaven; located in Mason City in March, 1876; was city attorney in Pekin one year, and is the democratic candidate for county attorney of Mason county for this coming fall's election. We anticipate his success, for from our knowledge of Mr. Mehan, we know he accomplishes all his undertakings. In Thomas N. Mehan we find another marked instance of a self-made man. Talented, energetic and careful; educated by his own energies and perseverance; sociable and affable in his intercourse with all, of good legal abilities, fine physical organization, we know of no one with better prospects of usefulness and longevity before them.
