Bernard G. Beekman The Rushville Times, Wednesday, September 5, 2001, page 15, column 3 Bernard G. Beekman, 92, of Havana Healthcare Center, formerly of Astoria, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Mason District Hospital in Havana. He was born June 28, 1909, in Enion, the son of John "Lute" and Laura (O'Donnell) Beekman. He married Marie Brillhart in October 1949. She preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 1963. He then married Esther Bucher on May 9, 1964, in Havana. She survives. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Bricker, and one step-great-grandson, Matthew Brown. Survivors include his wife of Havana; two stepsons, William Brillhart of Florida and Delmar (wife Betty) Bucher of Astoria; one stepdaughter, Mrs. William (Mable Lou) Brown of Havana; eight step-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; five step-great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Geneva Lockard of Havana; and one brother, Willis (wife Marge) Beekman of Ipava. He was a farmer and construction worker. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army 2nd Infantry Division during World War II European Theater of Operations. He was a member of Astoria American Legion Post 25, Labor Local 231 of Pekin, and the Astoria United Methodist Church. Services were held Saturday, Sept. 1, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with the Rev. Cliff Parry officiating. Burial was at Summum Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Summum Cemetery.
