Born March 22, 1913, in Chicago to Elmer and Elizabeth Klopsch Brown, he married Eleanor Bernard on Aug. 6, 1938, in Chicago. She died in 1995. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara (and Gerald) Sawyer of Havana and Carol Mandich of Dyer, Ind.; two sons, Robert (and Eileen) of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and David (and Lilia) of Hawaii; one brother, John "Bud" (and Katie) of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was a foreman for Amoco Oil refinery in Indiana for 40 years, retiring in 1974. He was of the Lutheran faith. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Concordia Cemetery Chapel in Hammond, Ind. There will be no visitation. Cremation will be accorded. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Mission of Hope, 627 S. Schrader, Havana, IL 62644.
St. Petersburg Times, February 9, 2005 BROWN, ALVIN "AL," 91, of Largo, died Thursday (Feb. 3, 2005) at the Mason District Hospital, Havana, Ill. He lived many years in Chicago and came here after retiring in 1974 from Amoco Refinery, in Whiting, Ind., where he worked for more than 40 years. He was a private pilot. He was a blood donor and a volunteer at local hospitals. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Mandich, Dyer, Ind., and Barbara Sawyer, Havana; two sons, Robert, Fernandina Beach, and David, Hawaii; a brother, John, Mount Juliet, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
