L. SUTHERLAND

Submitted by Norma Jean Huss

Another one of the city's most progressive business men is L. Sutherland present manager of the Hardware and Harness Departments of the Pugh Stores Company, located on the big shy scraper building.

Mr. Sutherland was born in Pope county August 18th, 1878, and received his education in the common schools of Pope county. He is a son of F.L. and Henrietta Sutherland who were also raised in Pope county, his mother, now deceased being Miss Henrietta Trueber, a member of one of the oldest and most highly respected families of the county.

F.L. Sutherland, father of L. Sutherland, now lives at Mr. Rose, Colorado, where he has resided for the past seven years.

L. Sutherland the subject of this sketch was married to Miss Rosa Streit of Pope county, Illinois about eleven years ago and two children were born as result of this union--both boys--Edwin and Loren Jr.

Mr. Sutherland moved to Metropolis from Pope county about seven (7) years ago and opened up a harness and supply store. Up until about one month ago he has been located at the corner of Ferry and 6th streets in what is known as the F.C. Obermark building when he took stocked and became identified with the Pugh Stores Company of this city as Manager of the Harness and Hardware departments located on the Third floor of the big Cagle building in Seventh street. Mr. Sutherland has since coming to this city seven years ago, enjoyed a splendid trade, due in a great measure to his fair, square methods of conducting business in which he accords honest courteous treatment to all patrons alike. He belongs to the W.O.W., M.W. of A., and is a member of the Pope County Mutual Benefit Association.

Mr. Sutherland has charge of a large and complete up-to-date Harness and Hardware and invites the public to call and inspect his prices when in need of anything in his line.
