A chief promoter in the erection of St. Johns United Church of Christ Church was Johann (John Frederick) Horntrop. It was, in fact, known as "The Horntrop Church" among the older generation. John Horntrop was the first burial in the Church cemetery. His stone towers over the rest on the east side of the cemetery.
