Helen Siegle Hofer

I was born on a farm in Cissna Park, Illinois on July 18, 1910. She is the youngest of five children born to Carl and Katherine Meiss Siegle. On October 7, 1930, she married a young farmer, John (Jack) Hofer from Gridley. They lived on the farm northwest of Gridley for 45 years. They have two children, Herb of Rockford, Illinois and Elaine of Sanibel Island, Florida. Her four grand daughters include, Gay Hofer Cunningham, Detroit, Michigan, Susie Hofer, Madison, Wisconsin, and Chelsea and Sabrina Bunch, Sanibel Island, Florida. Helen served as an Adult Girl Scout when Elaine became a Girl Scout. They spent many hours at Camp Pierce camping, hiking and singing around camp fires. Jack passed away April 24, 1978. Helen contines to live in the house that Jack and she built and moved into in 1975. Helen still enjoys bakng for family and community events and hosting large parties for the holidays. SHe is active in card clubs with friends and the First United Church of Gridley. One of her biggest passions is University of Illinois sports. She still attends Illini football games and doesn't miss a basketball game on TV.
