Adlai Ewing Stevenson

Adlai Ewing Stevenson was born 23 Oct 1835 in Christian County, Kentucky.

He practiced law in Bloomington, Illinois and was twice elected to the U. S. Congress as a Democrat (1874, 1878).

He was First Assistant Postmaster General during President Grover Cleveland's first term (1885 - 1889) and Vice President during his second (1893 - 1897).

In 1900, Stevenson again ran for Vice President on the Democratic ticket, this time with William Jennings Bryan. They were defeated.

In 1908 he ran for governor of Illinois and was also defeated.

Adlai Stevenson passed away on 14 Jun 1914 of a heart attack and was interred in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Bloomington. He was 78 years old.
