Oakford was known for its love of sports. There always seemed to be a team at Oakford whether other nearby towns formed a team or not. Some of the Oakford teams were called: Oakford Reindeers, Merchants, Grays and Reds. The above picture is of some of the early players: H. Lancaster, John Helslider, and Jim Whitley. Dr. Russell was very active in his early years and managed the salaried team when Oakford played many big teams from the larger cities.
