Farming in Menard Co., Illinois, since 1851; also traveled in selling thoroughbred cattle and as auctioneer from Canada to California and from Minneapolis to San Antonio, Texas, and over all the intermediate country where such cattle were raised. Member State Board of Agr., 1895----. Member of the Christian Church near Tallula for 53 years.

Married Kate A. Simpson, Mar. 23, 1851, Menard Co. Children, Emma Adelaide, William Scott, Charles Carrol, Maria Luella, James Joseph and Julia Birdie.
