Baker Cemetery was searched by Al & Carole Martin in the autumn of 2005. They were searching for the stone of John Martin (died Jan. 27, 1898) which over 40 years ago other relatives had found leaning against a tree, but they were unsuccessful. The stones pictured below were all found buried underground and have since been cleaned and wired to metal poles in the ground to keep them upright. The Martins placed them upright in as close to the spot where they were found buried. All photos and information were contributed by the Martins. J. Haldeman, Springfield, Ill. The bottom half of this stone has been sitting against a tree for some time, while the top half was underground Mariah L. Sampson Saunders "Mariah L. - Wife of C.M. Saunders & dau. of J. & R. Sampson - DIED Nov. 30, 1846 - AGED 35 Yrs. 5 Mos 6 Ds" Coleman Shelton "Coleman Shelton - Died Nov. 11 [or 14], 1851 - Aged 49yrs. 8ms" Perlina Slinker "Perlina - wife of J B Slinker - Died Aug. 28, 1837 - Aged 20ys 1ms 25ds" This stone was found about 2 feet from the stone with the initials Z.S. on it. Elizabeth C. Strader "Elizabeth C. - Dau. of J C & E Strader - Died July 15, 1835 - Aged 9ys 1mo 25ds" John C. Strader "John C. - Son of JC & E Strader - Died Dec. 3, 1844 - Aged 19ys 6ms 13ds" Larkin M. Strader "Larkin M. - Son of JC & E Strader - Died Feb. 28, 1840 - Aged 21ys 11ms 9ds" William L. Strader "William L. Strader - Died Nov. 3, 1857 - Aged 27 years" Z. B. "Z. B." No other markings. This stone was found about 2 feet from the stone with "W. L. S." on it. T. S. E. "T. S. E." No other markings. This stone was above ground. E. C. S.   "E. C. S." No other markings. Believed to be E. Strader, mother of the Strader children. Found within inches of the stones with M.L.S and J.C.S. and in the same area as the Strader children. J. C. S.   "J. C. S." No other markings. Believed to be J. C. Strader, father of the Strader children. Found next to the stones of E.C.S. and M.L.S. and in the same area as the Strader children. M. L. S.   "M. L. S." No other markings. Found in next to the stones of E.C.S. and J.C.S. and in the same area as the Strader children. W. L. S. "W. L. S." No other markings. Z. S. "Z. S." No other markings. Found about 2 feet from Perlina Slinker. Thomas ?   "Thomas S. - Son of [unreadable] - Died July 18, 1844 - Age 25 years" This was found in 3 pieces, leaning against a tree. The inscription between the top and middle pieces is unreadable.
