…… a Governor of Virginia! It took them two and a half centuries (250 years plus) but the Hall family finally had a descendant who became Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Admittedly, it was a long, circuitous route, but the road finally got there. John Dalton was elected Governor of Virginia in 1977 and he was a Hall descendant! It is true that he was an adopted child - a fact, widely known and publicized in Virginia. His adoption is not a secret. 'My attention was called to the fact that the Governor had Hall ancestors, and learned that they were in my line. I do not have complete information on all his ancestors but enough. Our line is descended from the William Hall, d. 1757; but not from his son, John, d. 1794. We are descended from Hezekiah Hall, d. 1811, John's brother. 'Governor Dalton was born John Nichols, was adopted by Judge Ted Dalton of Va., as a boy, and John Nichols officially became John Dalton. Regardless of his legal name, his blood line remains the same.' The chart on the next page is re-printed from the: Hall of Fame, published at Woodlands, Tx., the April, 1981 issue, p. 47. The publication is for Hall family searchers, nation-wide. (The author was assisted by his good friend, D. Claytor Brooks of Huddelston, Va., in preparing the chart.)
