Born: May 28, 1760 in North Carolina. Died: September 9, 1834 in Sangamon (now Menard) County, Illinois. Married: Nancy Greene on June 22, 1787. She was born February 2, 1768 at North Carolina. She died in 1856 in Petersburg, Illinois, Menard, County. His grave was marked by Pierre Menard Chapter, Petersburg, Illinois, April 23, 1931-32. Mrs. W.S. Antle, Regent. He served as a Private in the North Carolina State Militia from Crowders Creek North Carolina, under Colonel Little and General Asher. He was in the battle of Briar Creek in 1779. His widow made application for a pension in 1846, file No. R-259 Rev. war claims. Robert Armstrong and his father, James Armstrong were residents of Crowder Creek and Hornets Nest, Near Kings Mountain, North Carolina at the time of the Revolution. At a meeting on June 6, 1776 among the persons present at Captain Hombrights in Tyron County, North Carolina on the 9th inst. The name of Robert Armstrong appears.
