Born: About 1752 in the State of Virginia.

Died: May 7, 1843 in Menard County, Illinois. (DAR Patriot Index states C. February 9, 1841) He was 80 years of age in 1840, stated in book Old Settlers of Sangamon County, Illinois, by J.C. Power, Page 653.

Married: Parthena ________ at Green County, Kentucky.

Buried: In Concord Cemetery, Menard County, Illinois. (NOTE: His marker is actually in Old Concord Cemetery).

Joseph Short: born December 11, 1799, married Elizabeth.
John Short: married Mary Gaddie
William Short: born 1785; married Polly Campbell
Sarah Short: married Bennett
Chloe Short: married Hardin Thomas
Elizabeth Short:
James Short: born about 1787, died 1827.
Caleb Short: born April 19, 1790, died September 18,1863; married Elizabeth Walters May 26, 1814.

His grave was marked September 15, 1935-36 by Pierre Menard Chapter DAR, Petersburg, Illinois.

He enlisted early in 1776, served as a private in Captain Peter Dunn's Company, Colonel Hendrick's Virginia Regiment, was in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown, and was discharged March 28, 1778.

He was allowed pension on his application executed May 28, 1818, while a resident of Green County, Kentucky, age 66 years. In 1836 he had moved to Sangamon (now Menard) County, Illinois. In 1840 he was living in Menard County, Illinois, age 90 years with James Short.
