JAMES THOMAS Born: In the year 1750. Died: November 2, 1833 in Sangamon (now Menard) County. Buried: Concord Cemetery, Menard County, Illinois. Married: Rebecca Logston, April 8, 1793. Children Elizabeth Thomas: born June 27, 1796 William Thomas: born May 30, 1798 James Thomas: born June 2, 1800; died November 2, 1803. The above record was verified by William Armstrong, Justice of the Peace of Menard County, to be a true copy taken from the family Bible of James & Rebecca Thomas. Dated May 14, 1842. Rebecca Thomas applied for a widows pension November 5, 1840. James Thomas enlisted in the State of Maryland, city of Baltimore in the summer of the year 1776, in the Company Commissioned by David Plunkett, Captain in the Regiment Commissioned by Colonel Stephen Mayland of Dragoon, in the line of the State of Pennsylvania on the Continental establishment. That he continued in service in said Company until the close of the war, in 1782. Was discharged in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. That he was wounded in the Battle of Germantown and Savannah, he was in the Battle of Brandywine, Monmouth and at the taking of Lord Cornwallis at Littleyork. After the war he removed to Indiana, then to Kentucky, coming to Illinois in the year 1831, Sangamon (now Menard) County to live with his son, William Thomas. Reference: "Illinois DAR Report."
