Henry C. Levering

Henry C. Levering died at his home in this city, Friday morning, July 3, 1903 after an illness which began nearly a year ago. Deceased was aged 54 years, 6 months and 2 days. Funeral services will be held at the C. P. church at 2:00 p. m. Sunday conducted by Elder W. M. Groves assisted by Rev. Cockrum. Interment will be made in Rose Hill cemetery. Services at the grave will be under the auspices of the Masonic lodge of Peterburg.

H. C. Levering was the junior member of the firm of Harms & Levering proprietors of the "Octagon" department store at the south-west corner of the court house square. These gentlemen had been partners in business for twenty-one years in this city.

The deceased was powerful physically and energetic in all mercantile matters. He was noted for his tireless attention to business. He was first a member of the firm of Harms, Levering & Co., then of Harms, Levering & Clary, and finally of Harms & Levering.

Deceased was born in Petersburg, January 1, 1849, eldest son of Cave and Catherine Levering.

Those who will mourn his loss are the bereaved wife; sons, Paul and Harry; mother, Mrs. Catherine Levering; sisters Mesdames Robert Carver, L. I. Redmon, and Miss Maggie Levering; brothers, Aaron, James T, Charles, Cave and H. M Levering.
