Mrs. Deana Schmidt, who resided three miles southeast of Athens, died at the home of Mrs. John Dirks, a neighbor, on Friday afternoon, February 25th [1927].

She was the daughter of John and Anna Ritterbush, and was born near Tice October 26, 1866, and died February 25, 1927, aged 60 years and 4 months.

On February 22, 1887 she was married to Henry Schmidt who preceded her in death, June 3, 1922.

Surviving are two sons, John L. and William H. of Athens, and one daughter, Mrs. Louise Bancroft of Girard; one brother, Henry Ritterbush of Atronella, Alabama, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Janssen of Petersburg and Mrs. Emma Ackerman of Gifford, Illinois; also by seven grandchildren.

At an early age she united with the Petersburg Lutheran church and later, changed her membership to the Lutheran church at Athens where she was a faithful member.

On the day of her death she was apparently in good health and had walked to the home of her nearest neighbor. During the course of the afternoon she was seized with a paralytic stroke and all efforts of physician and friends were without avail and two hours later she gently fell asleep.

During the twenty six years of her life in this vicinity she made a host of friends who loved her kindly ways and unselfish disposition.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 1st, at 1:00 o'clock at the family residence, followed by services at 2 o'clock at the Athens Lutheran church, Rev. Kaiser officiating.
