Fred Schmidt Dead at 89; Was Long Ill
Fred H. Schmidt, 89 years old and a resident of this community for many years, died at his home on West Sheridan Road at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, March 14. Mr. Schmidtís death followed a long illness, during which he was hospitalized for several weeks.

He was born in Hanover, Germany on Feb. 1, 1870, a son of Louis and Dena Schmidt. The family came to America when he was only 13 months olds, and he spent the remainder of his life in or near this community. He was a member of St. Paulís church.

On April 4, 1895 he married Miss Mary Harms of Petersburg and for many years they lived on a farm east of this city, coming to Petersburg on retirement. Mrs. Schmidt preceded him in death on June 26, 1955.

Surviving are four daughter, Misses Betha, Louise, Kathryn and Emma, all of Petersburg. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Satorius Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Monday, conducted by Rev. Clifford Janssen of the St. Paulís church, and burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
