Funeral of Mrs S. B. Shepherd
The pall bearers were: Capt. J.A. Hurt, John Kinhart, Wm. Single, W. H. McDougal, Wm. Hurt, J.D. Primm, Sr. These are all comrades from the G. A. R.
Mrs. Shepherd had been seriously ill since last Fall with ulceration of the stomach and her suffering was intense. She was prepared in mind for the great change and her death came as a release from earthly pain june 7th at 8 p.m. Elizabeth Overstreet was the daughter of John R. and Rachel Overstreet and was born June 13, 1848. She was united with the Christian church at Antioch in 1865 and was married to Mr. S. B. Shepherd December 25, 1866. Of this marriage six children were born. These were Sophronia, Emma, Gertrude, Josephine, Lelia and Laura. Of these there are surviving, the husband, Mrs., Sophronia Bennett and Mrs. Lelia McDougal. There are also seven great grand children Roy Chronister, Fred Courtright, Marshall Bennett, Alcissa Bennett, Frank Bennett, Thomas Bennett and Elizora McDougal. These are with one brother, Mr. James Overstreet are saddened by their great loss. Mrs. Shepherd lacked but six days of being 57 years old. She was a member of the Christian church in Athens.
