Will of Elizabeth Bale

In the name of God Amen-I Elisabeth Bale of the county of Menard being feble of body but of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament thereby revoking all others-

Item 1st It is my will that there be hogs and cattle enough sold after my death to pay what few debts I may be oweing, including my funeral expenses-

Item 2nd I give and bequeath unto my beloved son William T.W. Bale, my horse and buggy and harness, my two year old colt, my grindstone, and three hundred bushels of corn to be taken from that now in the mill, in consideration of my love to him & the kindness he has shown to me during my last sickness

Item 3rd I give and bequeath unto my little ones Samuel Bale, John Bale and Arthur Bale the bed, bedstead and bed clothes which I now use, and in which I now sleep-and also ten dollars in money to buy them shoes and such little necessaries as they may require-

Item 4th After my debts are paid and the legacies and bequeaths aforesaid are set off, it is my will that all the rest of my property of every name and description, be equally divided among my eleven beloved children to wit-Henry Bale, Hardin Bale, Elisa Watkins, Frances Summers, Mary Jane Green, Susan Sampson, Sophia Bale, William T.W. Bale, Samuel Bale, John Bale & Arthur Bale-

Item 5th I will that my beloved son Hardin Bale act as guardian to my three little ones Samuel, John & Arthur until they shall arrive at a lawful age to choose one for themselves-

Item 6th I hereby appoint my beloved son Hardin Bale to be my executor to this this my last will and testament Signed and declared by me, this eighth day of May in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty eight-
