Mowthrop, Bill, married Mary Hope in 1862, the daughter of John H. Park of near Viola, Mercer Co. (Unclear if Hope is a surname or middle name) Mowthrop went to the war with the 102nd Illinois but was sent home with a physician's certificate and lived with his wife and the Widow Park. His wife and mother-in-law, however, abandoned him when he became ill and went to Knox County with a butcher named Deliverance Ross. Mowthrop has since died and was buried. (From the Mercer Co.
