Nettie SMITH Dies From A Spider Bite
Most people would as soon be bitten by a rattlesnake as a great, nasty looking spider. It fairly makes the flesh creep when they think of having the ugly looking animals crawl over them. And there is ground for their fear of the poisonous things. A dispatch from Quincy, dated September 23d, states that Nettie SMITH, and 18 year old girl residing at Columbia, Illinois, died Sunday in great agony from the effects of a spider bite. Her limbs swelled, and blood poisoning and lock jaw set in and hastened her death. [Batavia Herald, 26 Sept. 1895, submitted by K. Torp]
