Services for Mrs. Allie Newton 71, of 832 Metter Ave., Columbia, will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Columbia. Burial will be in the Howard Cemetery at Hurst, Ill.
Mrs. Newton died in St. Clement's Hospital in Red Bud, Ill., at 10:03 p.m. Saturday. She had been ill for more than a year and hospitalized several times during her illness.
Born in Crofton, Ky., she was a resident of Columbia for 32 years. Her husband Milo is a retired Missouri Pacific Railroad employee.
She is survived by her husband; two sons Glenn of Cahokia and Clyde of Columbia; four brothers Walt Terry of Crofton, Ky., and Frank, Lonnie and Olen Beck, all of Dupo; one sister Mrs. Emma Fischer of Columbia; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Schmidt Funeral Home, Columbia has charge.
He served in the US Army during WWII and for many years was a bus driver for Gulf Transport. He was employed at Puckett Moptors in Columbia and also operated the Fina Service Station on Main Street.
Mr.Newton died October 17,1988 at Monroe County Nursing Home, Waterloo, Illinois. Services were held at Lawlor Funeral Home, Columbia. Interment was at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Illinois.
Mr.Newton was preceded in death by his parents, Milo and Allie,nee Childres,
Newton; a sister Milly Newton in 1912; his brother William Glenn Newton
in June of 1988. Surviving is his wife, Mabel June, nee Sellinger, Newton;
his son Kevin Newton; his daughter, Mrs. Donald (Terry Ann) Schockley;
grandchildren Donna Louise and Donnie Schockley; neices and nephews.
He was retired from Columbia Quarry; member of Zoar United Church of Christ, New Hanover.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Dietrich and Catherine, nee Taake,Steffen; a brother, Herman W. Steffen; two sisters, Lydia Schewe and Hilda Harrea.
Surviving are his wife, Anna C.,nee Peterson,Steffen; a niece, Betty G. Bassy of Columbia; a brother-in-law, Louis Peterson of Millstadt; a sister-in-law, Rosa W. Scharf of Belleville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.Tuesday at Zoar United Church of Christ, New Hanover, with Rev.Donald Grewnwald officiating. Burial will be in Zoar United Church of Christ Cemetery, New Hanover.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday at the Dasner Funeral Home, Columbia.

Mr. Hankammer was preceded in death by his parents;William and Mary (Mehl) Hankammer; his wife Barbara (Leingang) Hankammer February9,1955 and his son Anthony Hankammer September 14,1973.
Surviving are daughters: Mrs.Donald (Theresa) Weber, Mrs.Norman (Bernice)
Newton, Mrs.William (Marie) Kilian; sons Ray and Theodore Hankammer,36
grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents George and Emma,nee Peterson,Otten; one brother Edgar Otten in 1922, two sisters, Alma Otten in 1922 and Elenora Otten Newton in 1976.
Mr.Otten is survived by his wife Cora, nee Klein, Otten; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Wesson Divers of St.Louis, Mo., Irene K. and Jerry Baltz of Millstadt; a brother Harvey Otten of St.Libory,IL; four sisters, Mrs.William (Ottilda) Kossina, Mrs.Herman (Adelia) Mees, Mrs.Charles (Pearl) Brinley and Mabel Otten; five grandchildren, Dara, Brad and Marty Divers and Thea and Colin Baltz; also nieces,nephews and cousins.
There was no visitation. Arrangements were handled by Dashner Funeral
Home, Columbia.
As a young man Milo worked in the coal mines of Southern Illinois. He later was employeed with Missouri Pacific Railroad and continued his employment with the railroad until his retirement. Mr.Newton was a member of the First Baptist Church and had resided in Columbia for 41 years.
Milo Newton died in the Monroe County Nursing Home, Waterloo, Illinois on September 25,1971. Rev. Martin Sifford officiated at the services held at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Columbia. Burial was at the Howard Cemetery,Jackson County,IL.
Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his wife Allie in 1962, a daughter Milly in 1912, and his mother Kathryn Howard Murray in 1957.
Surviving are his two sons Glenn (Elenora) Newton of Cahokia and Clyde
(Mabel) Newton of Columbia; 7 grandchildren Dale Newton, Dean Newton, Mrs.John
(Shirley) Todd, Mrs.Richard (Sharon) Burnes, Mrs.James (Gwenda) Capper,Terry
Ann and Kevin Newton and 18 great-grandchildren.
