This listing was compiled by students of Walter R Sanders as part of their social studies class at the Litchfield
High School. Over several years, mid 1940's and 1950's if I remember correctly, he and his students read the county
cemeteries and he compiled the lists into books which he had bound. Shortly before his death those books along
with his Early Settlers of Montgomery County IL volumes were purchased by the Litchfield Library. Walter and his
wife, Helen, were my teachers (social studies and English). He and I, along with a few other genealogists started
the Montgomery Co Genealogical Society 31 years ago. The work he (and his students) did is important in that many
of those stones, and in some cases cemeteries themselves, are no longer here to be read. Anyone using these records
should attempt to verify the information given. You'll note that I've marked "double checked" on some
entries. That was because there were entries which were very similar to each other. I went back to the original
list to make sure I hadn't made a typing error. Some entries were listed more than once in his original.
