Some history of the cemetery from CENTENNIAL HISTORY OF NOKOMIS, ILLINOIS, 1856 - 1956:
In 1856 two brothers, John and Samuel T. Strider, came to the Nokomis community from Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. They were among the earliest settlers. At his death John was sixty-four years of age. His grave was the first one made in the Nokomis Cemetery. His wife passed away in 1898 at the age of eighty-one.
(A little later in the book it says): "John Strider was the first man buried in Nokomis cemetery. A child was buried before Mr. Strider."
