Sep. 19, 1880 - .Forreston 10 ½ AM. Text: 1 Cor. 3. 9. Dined at C. Robertsons, who took me to Haldane. Text at Haldane ditto. Over night at W. Speakers. Weather rainy.
Sep. 20 - Went home on cars. Fare 10 cts. Dined at Rev. Pecks. Bot horse & harness from Rev. N. E. Gardner for $80.00. Weather fair but windy.
Sep. 21 -. Was at home until PM. Then went to Geo. Holms & Geo. Fulraths. Supped at Holys. Weather fair. .
Sep. 22 - Packed goods preparatory to moving to Haldane, Ill. Weather fair.
Sep. 23 - Family started for Haldane on train. Went to A. Fulrath & over night there. My horse & harness was taken from me by Rev. N. E. Gardner. Damage $25.75. Weather fair. Sold lamp for $2.50.
Sep. 24 - Haldane, Ill. Bot horse of Wm Oberhem for $100.00; harness of G. W. Buchee for 5.00; Sold boiler, .50 cts; Rags, .16 cts. Over night at Rev. W. Y. Smith. Weather fair.
Sep. 25 - Went to Haldane. Over night at parsonage. Weather fair.
Sep. 26 - Weather rained in AM. Held Class at Haldane. Preached at West Grove. Text 1 Cor. 3. 9. Over night at Bro. Mullens. At Foreston preached at Foreston. Text: Heb. 4. 16.
Sep. 27 - Went home. Then with W. Speaker went to Mt. Carroll for our last load of Furniture. Over night at Jno. Gross. Weather fair. Bot of Foster wall paper, etc., $2.50. Weather fair.
Sep. 28 - Returned to Haldane. Dined at W. Speakers. Weather fair.
Sep. 29 - Took Orilla Riche [Josiah's wife] to Freeport. Dined at Tremont House, 30 cts. Bot chair at Foreston, $4.25. Things at Freeport, $1.00. Weather cold.
Sep. 30 - Assisted wife at home. Weather cold.
Oct. 1 - At home all day. Weather fair. Bot 10 bushel of apples from W. Speaker at 40 cts per bushel. Weather fair.
Oct. 2 - Was at home all day. Weather rained.
Oct. 3 - Went to Foreston. Text: 1 Pet. 4. 16. Dined at C. Robinsons in Co. with Rev. Getting. Went to C. Billings. Then home. Haldane in evening. Text: Math. 16. 18. Weather fair.

Oct. 9 - Train to Freeport, 26 cts. Walked to Winnushat. Dined at Mr. Mitchels. Preached at W. Church at 2 PM. Held Q. M. at 3. Rev. S. S. Richards preached in evening. Over night at W. Emmings. Weather fair.
Oct. 10 -J. Kroff opened Love Feast. I preached at 10 ½. Text: 2 Cor. 6. 17 & 18. Dined at Bro. Talked to the children at 3. Rev. Starks preached at evening. Supped at J. Kroffs. Overnight at Father Kryders. Weather fair.
Oct. 11 - Was taken to Freeport by Rev. Starks. Dined at father Wittens. Bot Carpet, $1.00; Ammonia, 20; Fare home, 26. Weather fair.
Oct. 12 - Was at home. Weather fair.
Oct. 13 - Mowed grass on Mr. Conrads farm in PM.
Oct. 14 - In PM Cocked hay, etc., etc. Weather rained at night.
Oct. 15 - Hauled hay in AM, in PM went to Foreston on train, 7 cts. Bot things, 22; Hair clipped, 25. Held prayer meting at Church. Over night at Mr. Rolands. Weather fair but windy at night..
Oct. 16 - Visited at C. Mullens. Dined, Supped & over night. Held prayer Meeting at 3 PM. Q.M. by D. H. Healy. Held prayer Meeting in evening. Weather very stormy & cold.
Oct. 17 - Love Feast at 10 AM. Preaching by H. D. Healy at 10 ½ & evening Collection $8.38. Communion, Prayer Meeting at 6 PM. Over night at C. Robertsons. Weather cold & Stormy.
Oct. 18 - Went home on train, 7 cts. Weather very cold. Worked around home.
Oct. 19 - Worked around home. Hauled two loads cobs from S. Mannings. Weather cold.
Oct. 20 - Was in house all day. Sick. Weather fair. Rev. Coursey Called on me.
Oct. 21 - Took Joseph Gasmo & went to Mt. Carroll. Over night at A. Fulraths. Bot Auction house goods, 10.00.
Oct. 22 - Bot at Mt. Carroll: Lichty-Rimewalt, 2.35; Geo Pully , Boots, 4.00; A. Fulrath, F&M, 5.25; A. Van P, 1.50; Drug Store, .35; Mirror, .75. Charley was with me. We arrived home at night. Weather fair.
Oct. 23 - Was at home all day. Studied. Weather fair.
Oct. 24 - Haldane 10 ½. Text: 1 Pet. 4. 28. West Grove, Math. 7. Prayer & C. Forreston evening, text: Math. 6, "Thy Kingdom Come". Supped at C. Robertsons. Then went home. Weather very fair.
Oct. 25 - Was at home all day. Weather a little squally. Bot load of wood from Mr. Waltemyer for $1.00.
Oct. 26 - At 9 AM Started for Coleta where I arrived at 1 PM. Dined at Rev. J. W. Lewis'. Supped and over night at Bro. Lawrences. Weather cloudy. Acted as Sec. on Dr. Pecks case.
Oct. 27 - Dined this day at Rev. Cephes Hurles. All day in Association. At night people did our Committee work on Programme. Over night at Bro. Jno. Overholser. Weather fair.
Oct. 28 - Worked in Association until noon when we adjourned to meet at Greenville, June the 3, Tuesday 1881. Dined at R. Lawrences. Went home via Polo. Weather fair.
Oct. 29 - Was at home all day. Weather fair.
Oct. 30 - In PM went to Forreston. Called at Church in Forreston at 2 PM where we had a Meeting appointed. No one came. Called on Jno. Deals & Bro. Chusemans. Over night at C. Billigs. Weather cold.
Oct. 31 - Had no Meeting in Forreston, all thought best to go to the Lutheran Synod and hear preaching. I heard Rev. Mr. Harkey of Springfield, Ill. Dined at E. M. Mullens. Preached at Haldane meeting. Text: Math. 7. 7, 8.
Nov. 1 - At home all day. Weather fair. Visited Bro. Wilson at Maryland & M. Brentness.
Nov. 2 - At home all day. Weather fair. This day I was 40 years old. [All census records and baptismal records say he was born November 2, 1838.] My birthday coming on Presidential election and the only one in my whole life coming on that date, I could not vote for Philps & Pomory. I was not in Co. long enough.
Nov. 3 - Called on Abs Harmon, Geo. Pyfer. Dined at Geo. Pyfers, Jr. Went home. Womans Missionary association met this day at our house. Weather fair.
Nov. 4 - Bot 10 cords of wood from Mr. Deal at 2.65 pr. cord. Geo. Pyfer brought me ½ and home in PM. Got my buggy fixed, 1.05 cts. Weather fair but rainy in PM..
Nov. 5 - Called on Mr. Shrader at Maryland in AM. Weather cold and raw.
Nov. 6 - At home all day. Weather cold and raw.
Nov. 7 - Haldane at 10 ½. Text: Romans 8. 9. West Grove: Romans 1. 16. Foreston by Father Coursey. Supped at S. Bovey. Over night at E. M. Mullens. Weather rained at night.
Nov. 8 - Made Pastoral calls at Father Gutings, Geo. & James Gutings at Bro. Adams. At Father Pyfes at Bro. Kramers at Sister Johnsons, Bro. Detwilers, Bro. Chapells and Mr. Rolands. Prayer Meeting at Chapel in the evening. Weather fair.
Nov. 9 - Bot at Forreston: Tooth Picks, .10; Stocking Holders, .24; Rouchs, .25; Lamp Wicks, 2; Ginger, 10; RR Ticket, 7. Total 71 cts. Weather fair.
Nov. 10 - Was at home. Weather rained nearly all day.
Nov. 11 - Worked on sidewalk until 4 then went to Joseph Goods to preach but did not on acct. of bad weather. Weather cold and rainy. All night at Joseph Goods.
Nov. 12 - Went home. Called on Father Walter Myers & Father Millers. Weather fair but cold..
Nov. 13 - Was at home all day. Bot of Mr. Garman 3 prs of shoes on time & 3 ½ dys.

Nov. 15 - At home all day. Weather cold and snowy. Visited at S. Mannings in evening.
Nov. 16 - Called at W. Speakers & at Jno. Ketsmillers on business. Weather cold & blustering.
Nov. 17 - Visited at Rev. Gassards & Father Rodeamels in PM. Got lumber at Station & began to make Doors & Windows for storm. Weather cold.
Nov. 18 - Went to Polo for School books. Dined at Orient house. Subscribed for Church Herald, 1.00 per W. S. Hay. Returned by train, ½ fare. Drew from Bank for J. Walkmyer, 47.00. Weather fair.
Nov. 19 - Worked on Storm door & window all day. Weather cold.
Nov. 20 - Was at home. Studied all day. Weather cold.

Nov. 22 - Visited at Bro. Yeagers. Over night at J. Prices. Attend Evangelical Meeting at West Grove. Weather fair but somewhat blustering..
Nov. 23 - Visited at S. Gutings. Went home. Weather fair.
Nov. 24 - Was at home. Weather fair. Worked on storm windows & cellar door. Held Prayer Meeting in Chapel.
Nov. 25 - Thanksgiving Day. Stayed at home all day. Weather fair.
Nov. 26 - Was at home all day.. Studied. "The Lord give me light on Scripture doctrine is my prayer." Weather fair.
Nov. 27 - Was at home. Weather fair but cold.

Jan. 1, 1882 - (This Diary was bought at Freeport, 50 cts) Haldane, Ill. Elder T. F. Hallowell preached at Haldane in my place. I went to West Grove at 2 PM. Text: Acts 12, 12. Subject - the advantages of the Prayer Meeting. Over night at Mr. E. Rolands. Weather fair.
Jan. 2 - Returned home on cars. Bot of Mr. Cambell 1 pr. of pants, $6.00. Weather fair. Held Prayer Meting at 1 PM. At night called & held Meeting in Church.
Jan. 3 - Went to Mt. Carroll on the Hurless Murrtey trial Dined at E. M. Mullens. Forreston, took train at North Forreston to Mt. Carroll. Supped at Rev. Jno. Gross. Returned to Haldane in the night, fare 80 cts. Weather fair.
Jan. 4 - Returned from Mt. Carroll at 2 ½ AM. At home all day. Weather fair. Held Meeting in Church.
Jan. 5 - Started for Oregon but train being late I visited at Father Rodermals. Weather fair. Held service in Church.
Jan. 6 - Weather fair. Went to Oregon. Saw Lawyer Dutcher. Returned in PM. RR fare 80. Preached, Text: Acts 12. 12.
Jan. 7 - Was at home until 3 PM when I went on an errand to W. Speakers. Weather rainy & misty.
Jan. 8 - Stayed at Haldane. Held prayer Meeting & Class. At evening preached. Text: Acts 12. 12., "Advantages of prayer". Weather cloudy.
Jan. 9 - At 3 PM went to Forreston. Took supper at L. Suples. Then in Co. with W. Speaker & Mr. Aboote of Polo went to Mt. Carroll. Took breakfast at Lake House. Bill Tuesday Morning 35 cts. Weather fair.
Jan. 10 - At Lake House for breakfast. In court room. Dined at M. Rinedollars. 25 cts pr Meal. At night Stayed over night at Rev. E. Y. Smiths. Weather began to snow in PM and continued nearly all night. (1st good snow)
Jan. 11 - (At Court in Carroll County) Walked to Mt. Carroll - in Court room day Case. Came up at 11 AM & Continued all day. Dined at M. Rindollars, 25 cts pr meal. Over night at L. Wilsons. Weather quite fair.
Jan. 12 - Testified in Court vis P. Hurless. Dined at M. Rinedollars. At night stayed over at S. Grims. Weather fair.
Jan. 13 - Started home on cars to Forreston & Haldane. Held service in Church at night. Text: Acts 12. 12. Weather fair. "We look now to the Lord to overpower the obnoxious influence of the Slander Suit just passed through at Mt. Carroll. The Lord have mercy on men who persist in doing wrong & wickedly."
Jan. 14 - At home all day & studied. Weather fair but cold. Preached my last sermon on prayer.
Jan. 15 - Haldane 10 ½ . Text: Jno. 13. 7-9. West Grove, Text: Acts 12. 12.. Forreston, ditto. Over night at L. Boveys. Weather fair."The Lord be Praised for His Goodness."

Jan. 17 - Assisted at the funeral of Mrs. Rodermal. Rev. C. Burke did the preaching. Dined at father Rodermals. Held service in Chapel at Haldane. Text: 1 Pet. 5. 20. Weather very cold.
Jan. 18 - Sent notice to Polo Press of the death of Mary M. Rodermal. Prayer Meeting at Geo. Pyfers at 11 ½. Returned home. Recd in eatables to amt. of $1.00. In evening preached in Church, Text: 1st Tim. 5. 7. Weather fair.
Jan. 19 - At home all day. Weather fair. Preached in Chapel at night. Text: Prov. 24. 11 & 12 verses. Weather fair.
Jan. 20 - Wife & I visited at Geo. Gossards. Weather warm & fair. At home in the evening. "O that I may be a better man. Why should I become a cast away when . . "
Jan. 21 - Went to Freeport on business. Assisted Mrs. Hallowell in Purchasing 2 Chairs for W. Speaker & Wifes 30th Anniversary on Tuesday Jan. 1st, 1882. Called on Rev. Bot 2 jackets for $1.10 cts. Dinner .15. Car fare 52 cts. Weather cold in PM. "The Lord have mercy on all people."
Jan. 22 - Forreston 10 ½ AM, Jno. 13. 4 to 7. Pleasant Hill, 2 ½ PM. Haldane, 7 PM, Jno. 11. 15, Subject, "The Christian in the World". 1- His place as "Light bearer". 2- "As a preserver" - Salt. 11. The Christian as tempted to sin: 1- How tempted; 2- How preserved. Weather fair.
Jan. 23 - Was at home. Weather fair.
Jan. 24 - Attended the 32nd Anniversary of the wedded life of W. Speaker & wife. 2 Chairs were presented. Weather very fair. S. Manning & Wife and B. G. Pulver and Wife visited here.
Jan. 25 - Was at home all day. Weather Misty with rain. Sent 1$ to Cynosure. Visited at M. Slifers.
Jan. 26 - Was at home all day. Geo. Pyfer hauled coal. Cost $4.20. Load of wood for Grubles. Weather bad. Visited at Aunt Hannahs this evening.
Jan. 27 - At home until [about] 5 PM. Then went to Polo and heard Bishop Weaver. Took Supper at D. Middlekan. Over night at Rev. T. F. Hallowells Weather fair. RR fare 5 cts.
Jan. 28 - Went home on accommodations, ½ fare, 8 cts. Studied. Weather very cold.
Jan. 29 - Haldane 10 ½ AM. West Grove, 2 PM. Text all day: 2 Cor. 13. 5. Over night at S. Seiple. Weather fair.
Jan. 30 - Visited at Simon Gellings. Went home. Weather fair. Got horse shod, 40 cts.
Jan. 31 - Wife & I visited at Jos. Waltemeyers. Elder W. H. Chandler visited here all night Weather fair. Subscribed for the WR in Christ.
Feb. 1 - Was at home all day. At night in the Co. with D. Mannun. Visited at L. F. Rowland. Weather fair.
Feb. 2 - All day at home. Studied Evolution in Problem of Human Life by Hall. Weather fair.
Feb. 3 - Was at home all day. Weather fair.
Feb. 4 - Was at home. Studied all day. Weather snowed in the night.
Feb. 5 - Forreston 10 ½; Jno. 11. 15. Dined at Jno. Nicklsons. Held prayer service at P. Hill. Haldane 7 PM. Text: Hebrews 12. 16 & 17. Weather fair.
Feb. 6 - Was at home. Weather fair. Geo. Pyfer, Jr & Wife, B. Pulver were here on a visit.
Feb. 7 - In PM went to Forreston, held business meeting in Chapel. Visited at Mrs. P. Plattenberg, Mattie Mullens, Old father Mullens, Mrs. Coursey. At Ed Kraners over night at E. M. Mullens. Weather fair.
Feb. 8 - Went home on cars, ½ fare 7 cts. Was at home the rest of the day. Weather fair.
Feb. 9 - Wife & I visited at M. Brantness. Weather fair.
Feb. 10 - Wife & I visited at A. B. Harmons. Weather fair. "Let the love of God dwell in you richly by faith that denies ungodliness. We should live soberly, righteously, Godly in this present world looking & hasting into that blessed hope & the glorious appearing of God our Father."

Feb. 14 - Called at Bro. Sieples. Dined at E. Rolands. Supped at S. P. Sias. Held service at Chapel. Text: Luke 10. 34. "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God, etc. And neighbor etc." Over night at E. M. Mullens. Weather fair.
Feb. 15- Went home at 10 AM on train. Wife & I visited at G. Mannings. Returned to Forreston at 5 PM. My Charley to took me in buggy ½ way. Text: Luke 10. 41 & 42. Over night at Suples.
Feb. 16 - Visited at Jno. Mullen. Dined at E. M. Mullens. Stayed all PM at E. M. Mullens & rested & studied. Text at Chapel: Rev. 3. 20. Over at Mr. E. Roland. Weather fair

May 3 - Death of Mrs. J. P. Kitsmiller in childbirth. May 5 - Assisted Rev. Ty Hale at funeral of Mrs. J. P. Kitsmiller. Dined at J. P. Kitsmillers.
Sep. 4 - Attended funeral of Rev. S. Healy at Brick Church Eagle Point. Rev. Wendle & Dissinger officiated assisted by Rev. Post.
