Mr Gustafson retired March 31 as deputy sheriff and bailoff of the Peoria county circuit coart after serving in the sheriff´s office for 21 years.
Before entering public work Mr Gustafson operated a grosery store for a number of years. He became a member of the Peoria police department in 1912 serving six years as a patrolman.
He had been active in
Republican party circles for many years and was elected an assistant supervisor
while serving on the police force.
He remained on the county board until 1920 when he was elected supervisor of the
poor in which capacity he also took over the duties of township tresurer.
Four years later he became
directorof the Peoria office at the State Employment service, serving four years
in that position.
He also was employed for a time as a special agent for the Illinois
Terminal railroad.
He is buried at Parkview cemetery.
