Of the seven men who pioneered their way to Peoria and pitched their tent against one side of old Fort Clark, in the early spring of 1819, only one is left. That one is the venerable Josiah Fulton, who, from that time to the present, has maintained a home within the sight of the ground now covered by the busy city of Peoria. Untied States Marshall J. W. Arnold today opened the October term of the United States Court for the Peoria District, but on account of Judge Grosscup's illness and adjournment was taken to Nov. 6.

An individual called at Mr. Martin’s harness-shop, in Peoria, a few days since, and left a basket for Mrs. M., and then immediately disappeared.

John S. Zenbar, of Salem Oregon, formerly of Peoria, has been appointed Surveyor General for the Territory of Oregon.

Woman a Victim of Drink
Peoria IL- October 10-- Mrs. Margaret Everwein, a resident of Bartonville and a woman of considerable property, was found dead in bed Tuesday morning. She was 60 years of age and weighed 215 pounds. The testimony before the coroner showed that she had been in a state of intoxication nearly all the time for the last year, and that for a month she had not been sober.
