Services were held at 2:oopm, Monday, January 20, 1958 for Henry Bailey, 78, Carbondale
who died Saturday, January 18, 1958 in the Veteran's Hospital in Marion, Illinois.
Bailey, who served in Cuba during the Spanish-American War, was the last active
charter member of Carbondale's Frank Burbank Post of the United Spanish War Veterans.
He was one of 15 veterans named in the original charter.
Bailey was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Tamaroa and a member of the
Walnut Street Baptist Church of Carbondale.
He was born in Perry County on March 23, 1879. He was a wholesale grain dealer
and coal mine operator in the Tamaroa - Sunfield area for forty years.
He leaves daughters, Hazel Irene Bailey Joseph, wife of R.C. Joseph,
Carbondlae School Board Member and Illinois Central Railroad Chief Dispatcher
in Carbondale and Mrs. Wanda Hudson, Sedalia, Missouri. Sons, Ray, Carterville and
Harley, Tupelo, Mississippi, brother, George, Sunfield and eight grandchildren.
Services were held at the Walnut Street Baptist Church, Carbondale with the
Rev. Bert I. Cherry, officiating. Burial was in the IOOF Cemetary in DuQuoin.
