JAMES ADAM DAVIS DIED IN PINCKNEYVILLE
James Adam Davis, the second of eleven children of
Reuben and Elizabeth Davis, was born about four miles
north of Pinckneyville on Jan. 17, 1857, and departed this
life at his home in Pinckneyville on April 17, 1934, after a
short illness, at the ripe old age of 77 years and 3 months.
On August 7, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss
Alice Brown, and to this union five children were born.
One daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, preceded her father
in death some twenty-three years ago. In early manhood
Mr. Davis professed a hope in Christ and united with the
Oak Grove Baptist Church by baptism under the ministry of
Rev. Alec Rice, and about 18 years ago he and his wife
moved their membership to the First Baptist Church in this
city. Mr. Davis was a life-time resident of this county,
spending most of his life at farming, living a quiet life,
devoted to his family and work.
He is survived by his widow and four children.
Hugh and Howard, Miss Nora and Mrs. John Pedigo
all of Pinckneyville; one sister Mrs. Mary Schelebo
of Sparta, and one brother Henry Davis, living north
of Pinckneyville; three grand-children.
