Hester Gladson

Fell from car about week ago and broke her hip

Mrs. Hester Gladson, wife of Joel Gladson, passed away
Thursday morning at about 1:00 o'clock at the Marshal
Browning Hospital. Death was due to old age and a broken
hip received last week when Mrs. Gladson was returning to
her home after having spend the day with her daughter,
Mrs. Walter Fox, on North Division Street. She was
alighting from a car in front of her home on Smith Ave.,
when she fell and broke her hip. She was taken to
Marshall Browning hospital where everything possible
was done for her, but the severe shock of the injury,
combined with old age, brought death to the aged
citizen after one week of illness.

Mrs. Gladson was born in Monatoe County, MO,
June 20, 1852, being at her death, 71 years of age.

She is survived by her husband, J. F. Gladson,
three daughters, Mrs. Lydia Fox of Du Quoin, Mrs.
Edith Shelton of Springfield, and Mrs. John Baxter
of Du Quoin, and also a number of grandchildren.

Mrs. Gladson had been a resident of this city for
the past forty years and was held in high esteem
by her many friends. She was a member of the
First Baptist Church of this city and funeral
services will be held from that church Saturday
afternoon at 2:00 o'clock.
Rev. O. L. Weir, pastor officiating. Interment will be
in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
