Keene Cemetery is 3 miles north of Pinckneyville, almost exactly. The dirt road is just past Deer Run? Road. There's an old tanker truck sitting on the road. It's on the right side going north. There's an old house, trailer, and barn that sits back there. There's a no trespassing sign on the old house. The cemetery sits directly behind the old barn. The road is good and it's easily accessible. Note : I wouldn't go out there alone, though. Just a safety precaution. It's all overgrown and the buildings are hard to see. There's a bus and a lot of other junk out there, too. It's been taken care of by someone. There were plastic flowers on some of the graves, and they were fairly recent. A lot of the stones are small and can't be read. There are Reidelbergers, McClures, Marlows, Davises, Houghlands, Jenkins?, Keenes. and more. There's an old tree standing in the middle of the cemetery and it doesn't look very safe. It's dead and looks like it could go at any time. Lori (Dempsey) Rose |
