IS NO MORE
Popular Citizen Who Was Stricken Bailey Butler, for years a well known citizen of Marion, (formerly of DuQuoin) living on West Main Street, passed from this life on Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 after a three days illness. The news of this death brings sadness to perhaps as many person in Marion and section as any that has occurred here in Many years. He was a well know and respected citizen. Mr. Butler though almost 65 years of age, had all of his life been in the very best of health until on Sunday night when he was stricken with paralysis. His entire body was affected and he laid in a semi-conscious state until Wednesday afternoon late when his life went out. He was born on the 12th day of July, 1847 (in Butler's Landing, Jackson County, TN, son of Welcome Butler and Sarah Holmes Butler who later married Elijah Vancil of DuQuoin after Welcome's death) Passing away on March 20, 1912, he died at the age of 64 years, 8 months and 8 days. His death occurred at his home at 1607 West Main street. He was a laboring man and for years had been in the employ of the Peabody Coal Co., at its No. 3 mine near here. He was a very large man and powerful of muscle and even at this advancing age, was regarded as one of the strongest men in the section. He was a veteran and saw much service in war. He was a soldier in his early youth. He was a man who possessed many friends. He possessed a jolly, jovial disposition which made him friends. He was one who highly appreciated his friends and one who was your friend indeed and in truth. He was plain spoken and his long service as a soldier gave him a certain roughness in manner but those who truly know that in his breast there was to be found a heart that was true. He was a character made up on his own distinct plan and there is to be found no others just like him. His close acquaintances realize that in his death they have suffered a loss. He will be missed. He leaves a wife and several children. (Wife was Hulda Grimes Butler, daughter Ollie Butler Anderson, wife of Amos Anderson) sons, Charlie Butler, Elijah Butler and Freddie Butler).
