Everett C. Beard, 83, of 204 W. Reed St., Du /quoin, died at 5:32 a.m. Monday, April 23, 1984, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

      Mr. Beard was a retired coal miner and a member of the Baptist faith.

      He was born March 9, 1901, to Charles and Lillie Smith Beard. he married Gertrude Puterbaugh on June 17, 1923, in Du Quoin.

      Survivors include his wife; four sons, Everett C. Beard, Jr., St John's Mo., Eugene H. Beard, Du Quoin, Dale F. Beard, Festus, Mo. and James S. Beard, Higginsville, Mo.; two daughters, Sharon Wernecker, St. Louis, Mo., Karen Walker, Scottsdale, Ariz.; one brother, Lawerence Beard, Du Quoin; two sisters, Myrtle Siefert, Du Quoin, Clara Barnhardt, Chicago; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

      He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

      Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

      Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery.
