Godfrey Berner, 84, Rt. 2, Mulkeytown, died Saturday at the Miner's Hospital in Christopher.

      He was born in Hancock County, Iowa, Jan.4 1884, the son of Charles and Caroline Konodeler Berner.

      He was a member of the Evangelical reformed United Church of Christ and the Modern Woodmen of America.

      He leaves his wife, the former Ida Kunkel of Mulkeytown; sons, Carl of Mulkeytown, Walter of Royalton, and Paul of Belleville; a daughter, Mrs Clara Mae Sample of Sesser, a brother Emil of Mulkeytown; and 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

      Services will be at 2 p.m. tuesday at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher. the Rev. fred Fieker will officiate.

      Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Du Quoin.
