DU QUOIN - Elmer F. Fred, 78, of Route 3 died at 4:03 p.m. Friday, April 17, 1987, Marshall Browning Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Pentacostal Church, with burial in Old Du Quoin Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and until 11 a.m. Tuesday at Neal Funeral Home, and after noon Tuesday at the church. Mr. Fred, a lifetime resident of Du Quoin, was a retired coal miner and a former Du Quoin Packing Plant employee. He was born May 28, 1908, in Perry County to Steve and Julie Cavins Fred. He married Lillian Faye Dasher on Dec. 24, 1930, in Du Quoin. She died Dec. 1, 1970. Survivors include four daughters, Delores Elaine Donathon, Naomi Ruth Commean and Della Kelley, all of Springfield, and Barbara Diane White of Du Quoin; three sons, Elmer Grover Fred of Springfield, John Raymon fred of Tamaroa and Steve Fred of Du Quoin; 32 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. fred was raised by the family of Zeph and Ada Harris. Their two daughters survive. They are Emma Lou Stephens and Ruby Bailey, both of Du Quoin. Also preceding him death were one daughter, one son, two brothers and a grandchild.
