'Flash' Howerton DU QUOIN - Services for Loren R. "Flash" Howerton, 64, of Route 3, will be at 2 p.m. today in Neal Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may cll at the funeral home until the time of service. Mr. Howerton died Wednesday, July 2, 1986, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. He was a retired coal miner and a member of United Mine Workers Local 9721 and the First Baptist Church of Du Quoin. He was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Perry County, to Roy and Ethel Fred Howerton. He married Marjorie Downs on Oct. 17, 1941, in Perryville, Mo. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Sheila Metten, of Du Quoin, Crystal Kwasman, Chicago, and Cathy Markee, Minneapolis, Minn.; one son, Mark Howerton, Du Quoin; one sister, Rosalie Green, Du Quoin; one brother Ray Howerton, Carbondale; and six grandchildren.
