Harvey S. Mitchell, 89, the Denmark Area of Perry County, died Sunday, April 8, at the Senior Manor Nursing Home in Sparta.

      Mr. Mitchell was born in Cutler, August 31, 1900, the son of Theodore and Jennie (Smith) Mitchell. He married Hilda Mohr in Benton, June 1, 1932. His wife preceded him in death on March 1, 1979. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.

      He was a farmer in the Denmark area all of his life and a charter member of the Perry County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Denmark Baptist Church since 1916.

      Surviving are his son Lowell and his wife Darlene of Coulterville; two grandchildren, Vivian Gladson and her husband Karl of Coulterville, and Lloyd Mitchell and his wife, Chris of Coulterville; two great-grandchildren, Tosha Gladson and Brandon Mitchell.

      Funeral services were held at the Pyatt Funeral Home in Pinckneyville on Tuesday, April 10, with the Rev. James O. Mathenia officiating, with interment in the Cottom Cemetery at Denmark.

      Friends called at the Pyatt Funeral Home on Monday and Tuesday.
